Bedford Academy of Dance
Mrs Hannah D’Arcy, Principal of Bedford Academy of Dance, started dancing at the age of 3 studying ballet, tap and modern dance achieving Intermediate in Ballet and Advanced Tap and Modern.
Hannah completed her dance training with the Royal Academy of Dance in London. Out of thousands who auditioned for the college of The Royal Academy of Dance, Hannah was granted a place for 3 years where she was awarded a Licentiate of the Academy and had reached her advanced level in ballet. Hannah graduated from The Royal Academy of Dance in July 1996 with Honours in both children’s grades and major work: which is to a professional standard. Hannah achieved the highest grades possible in both these teaching awards.
Bedford Academy of Dance was opened in 2004 with 27 pupils and has expanded rapidly to over 200 students aged between 2 1/2 and 18. We are based at St Andrews Church Hall, Kimbolton Road, Bedford and The Dance Studio, St Thomas More Upper School, Bedford.
We study the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus for ballet, which is the highest in the country and is recognised worldwide. Children work towards each examination through their weekly classes. Your child will be encouraged to take examinations but it is not essential and extra tuition is available if required in order for your child to be of the required standard before entering the examination.
As well as exams we do perform our own shows with all the proceeds going to childrens charities, which were “Wish upon a Star” a children’s charity for terminally ill children and “Riverbank Ward” at Bedford Hospital, The Ridgeway School in Kempston for special needs children. The last show raised over £8,600 for The Brain Tumour Research Trust. The last 6 shows have raised over £30,000.
A free taster session is offered for your child and if your child wishes to continue we can provide all your uniform requirements. Classes run in line with the school term timetable and fees are payable on the first day of each term.
Bedford Academy of Dance offers fun, stimulating classes where the children are encouraged to express themselves in dance and movement and provides a safe and exciting environment for your child to enjoy themselves.
We also have classes in ISTD Tap and Street Dance (Imperial Society of Theatre Dance which is a recognised teaching syllabus).
